We know time is money in the pharmacy, so we spoke with Masonic Villages Pharmacy about how they save time. We talked to Pharmacy Manager Donald R. Brindisi, RPh, about how TCGRx’s SmartCardRx™ saves the pharmacy hours every week. Read their story below.

In business, improving efficiency is important. This goal is no different when you’re running a pharmacy.

Masonic Villages provides a full continuum of retirement living, personal care and nursing services at five locations across the state of Pennsylvania.

The Masonic Villages Pharmacy services Elizabethtown, Lafayette Hill and Warminster locations, with the Elizabethtown campus serving over 1,870 residents in retirement living, personal care, a children’s home, and a 453-bed skilled nursing and memory support facility, which includes a 48-bed transitional care for short-term rehab.

When we asked Brindisi why Masonic Villages chose TCGRx’s SmartCardRx, he said, “Offering blister cards keeps the patients we serve independent just a little bit longer and lightens the burden for them — improving their overall life.”

Until recently, the pharmacy was packaging weekly pill organizers by hand, which was very time-consuming.

Before Masonic Villages implemented SmartCardRx, it took three pharmacy technicians and one pharmacist a day and a half every week to fill 100 blister cards.

After implementing SmartCardRx, the pharmacy fills the cards only once a month — lightening the workload for the entire staff. Now, it only takes one pharmacy technician one day per week and a pharmacist one hour per week to fill 100 blister cards a month (broken down to 25 cards per week).

The implementation of SmartCardRx saves the pharmacy about 30 hours every week, according to Brindisi. That translates to approximately $38,000 annually saved in staff efficiency.

“Besides improving efficiency in the pharmacy and saving labor costs, the accuracy of the blister adherence system is tremendous,” Brindisi said. “Plus, I know my residents are taking the right medications and taking them as prescribed. SmartCardRx is a very simple solution for medication adherence.”

About SmartCardRx
