How to Get Your Marketing Strategy Back In Shape

With the holidays around the corner, many of us may be thinking about how to enjoy the season of food and family without overindulging on too much on turkey or stuffing. As you might guess, moderation and making a plan is key to keeping your body healthy and your heart happy.

Similarly, you may be considering trimming the fat on your pharmacy’s operations while still looking forward to taking advantage of the holiday sales. It’s time to make the most out of your spending dollars and just like getting in shape, it takes moderation and making a plan.

Here are five ways to cut out the fat while boosting your seasonal sales and productivity.

  1. Don’t Skip Breakfast.

Just like how you tell your patients that skipping meals, especially breakfast, is not healthy and can be counterproductive, this also holds true for your business.

Make sure not to skip out on marketing opportunities; instead, ensure your marketing dollars are spent effectively and efficiently. Choose one to two social media platforms and make sure you utilize these channels to engage with your customers. Once you have chosen your channel of choice, we suggest you create one or two unique posts each week. This amount of content won’t overwhelm pharmacists’ schedules and will keep your customers engaged.

  1. Cut The Calories

When looking to drop a few pounds, the rule of thumb is to make sure you are expending more calories than you intake. Cut out the marketing efforts that are not bringing you a good return of investment. For example, a newspaper ad can advertise to an entire city but someone who lives across town and 30 minutes away won’t be likely to make the drive all the way to your pharmacy. Make sure your dollars are targeting real customers with real potential of visiting your pharmacy. Hint: if you can’t even see what kind of impact your dollars are having, you might want to consider cutting back.

  1. Get Your Heart Pumping

Cardiovascular exercise is critical to your overall wellbeing as it affects just about every aspect of your day.  Just like you would start an exercise program to get your heart pumping and burn those extra calories, the same goes for your business. Make sure your marketing budget isn’t bloated and your efforts are cost effective, affecting the number of new customers, weekly foot traffic and ultimately your bottom line. Through hyper targeting with Facebook or other platforms, businesses can get their message in front of the real, potential customers which translates to a more cost effective marketing approach.

  1. Track Your Progress

Just like any exercise and diet program, tracking your progress can make all the difference. Make sure you can see how your marketing efforts are performing. Once you know what works and what doesn’t, you can tweak your plan until you find a happy medium that what works for you and your business.

  1. And Most Importantly, Do Not Give Up!

We all have experienced the high of starting a workout routine and the low of falling off the wagon before seeing any real results. In exercise and in business it is critical you do not give up too quickly. Make sure you give your marketing efforts enough time to see the full results. We recommend you give your efforts 3 to 6 months and then tweaking from there.
