Rx Express Pharmacy and Surgical of East Northport of Huntington, NY is known for its small-town neighborhood feel and quality customer care.
Owned by Joanne Hoffman Beechko, RPH, Rx Express first opened its doors in late 1990, offering “old school” pharmacy services and surgical supplies. The pharmacy’s gift shop The Corner Gifts offers a unique experience that is “classy and quirky, and everything else in between.”
Rx Express’s services include OTC and surgical supplies, vitamins and homeopathic medicines, durable medical equipment, medication synchronization, and medication therapy management.
Rx Express has been a Digital Pharmacist branded healthsite and mobile app client since June 2018. Beechko had wanted a pharmacy website that would be able to showcase the two halves of her store, the pharmacy and gift shop, and offer online prescription services.
Since 2018, the pharmacy has more than doubled their website traffic and saw a significant spike in online presence quarter-over-quarter after introducing weekly gift specials to their digital marketing efforts in early 2020.

“We wanted to emphasize the fact that you can refill prescriptions online, which is why we went with Digital Pharmacist. We didn’t really know any other companies that could offer [those features]. No one at the store has the time to dedicate learning about the backend of websites and coding and all the other logistics. I’m glad that someone else has the knowledge and capability to do that job for us.”
Mike Tiongson, who works part-time at Rx Express providing website support, helped the pharmacy ramp up digital marketing during lockdown. “When the COVID pandemic started in March, she [Beechko] needed to find creative solutions to help bring that online presence to the store, which is what led to our weekly gift specials,” Tiongson says.
Beechko and the gift store team decide what they want to feature that week, then Tiongson takes photos of each product and sends them to Digital Pharmacist to change out on the website. Rx Express’s weekly gift specials page features 8-10 discounted items and includes a free surgical mask with each purchase, allowing customers to visit the gift shop virtually and order online.
“That’s how we try to engage with our customers online,” Tiongson says. “We let them know that you don’t have to come into the store if you don’t want to. If you see something on our website that you like, call and if we have it in stock, we’ll prepare it for you and you can come pick it up or get it delivered curbside.”
Customers who want to see the items up close can visit the Rx Express Facebook page, where they do weekly Facebook Live video showcases to highlight specials, answer questions, and take orders. Rx Express also sends out a regular newsletter to an email list of 1,200 which directs them to the website for weekly specials.
