Your mobile app provides convenience and value to your customers, but only if they download it. We spoke to Terry from iCARE Pharmacy located in Lafayette, LA to learn how iCare helps patients download and start using their app.
Q. WHAT VALUE DO YOU THINK A MOBILE APP HAS FOR YOUR PHARMACY?
A. “Communication. The refill form on the app offers a place for patients to send us a message – in the comments section. Our patients really enjoy being able to contact us there, and they actually want to ask us questions. Discovering the usefulness of this feature for them, and for us, made it easier to show them the value and get more downloads.”
Q. WHAT HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED TO GET MORE PATIENTS TO DOWNLOAD YOUR APP?
A. “We saw a huge spike when we offered a 5% or 10% discount on over the counter products. Most importantly, we made them download it in front of us – keeping them accountable.
We also show our patients how to download it. It turns out that several patients don’t download our app because they don’t know how. So we walk them through the steps and show them exactly how to do it.
Another thing that helped – making sure patients were searching the right name. Patients can have trouble finding the app if they don’t know the exact name it’s under. Make sure to reiterate exactly how it’s labeled in the app stores.”
Q. WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU HAVE FOR OTHER COMMUNITY PHARMACY OWNERS JUST GETTING STARTED WITH A NEW MOBILE APP?
A. “Just get involved! Make it fun! Get all of your pharmacy techs into it and make a competition out of it to see which members of your staff can get the most downloads. Show patients what the app can do. I pull my phone out and say, ‘Look at all of the health news you have access to, look at all these features of the app.’ You got to be willing to talk to your patients about it.”
