Influential Texas Pharmacy Gets a Smile from New Social & Mobile Platform

Established 45 years ago in the town of Edinburg, Texas, Cantu’s Pharmacy, one of the nation’s first computerized pharmacies, is benefiting from the latest technology trend - mobile friendly websites, mobile apps and social media.

Owner Nario Cantu, a 3rd generation pharmacist and President-elect of the Alliance of Independent Pharmacies of Texas, explains how his family business is staying relevant, despite fierce competition from big brand drug stores like HEB and Walgreens setting up in this south texas town, “We were one of the first computerized pharmacies in the nation and have always embraced technology to stay ahead.”

Observing the rapid growth of mobile friendly websites, mobile apps from national brands like Walgreens and the never-ending hunger for social media among his staff, patients and family members, Cantu knew he needed to offer his patients a social media and mobile friendly solution. To help him succeed, he came across RxWiki’s Digital Pharmacist platform. Within a month, Cantu launched his new mobile friendly website, a new Apple and Android mobile app capable of 24/7 Rx refills and social media conversations, targeted residents of Edinburg who live just a few miles from his store. “Our new website and mobile apps save us a lot of time and we’re now getting exposure on Facebook. I like that we can connect with our patients via these channels and provide them reliable, varied health content. Best of all, I don’t have to invest much time to manage it all, the RxWiki team does it for us.”

When asked what makes Cantu’s different to other pharmacies in the area, Nario praised his team of 15 staff, “we provide family-like service, fast and friendly prescriptions with a SMILE,” his digital platform is a 24/7 extension of this service-minded philosophy.

Nario is President-elect of the Alliance of Independent Pharmacies of Texas, a pharmacy advocacy group that represents independent pharmacy in legislative matters. He is also an active member and former board member of the Texas Pharmacy Association and running as a write-in candidate for Treasurer-Elect.
